ANALYZING CHANGING PRICE RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN WHEAT FUTURES MARKETS AgEcon
Strohmaier, Jay S.; Dahl, Reynold P..
The purpose of this paper is to determine if hedging effectiveness can be enhanced with an understanding of seasonal and interseasonal changes in relative prices between the three wheat futures markets. The specific objectives of the analysis are to address the following questions: (1) What factors have contributed to increased variability in relative prices? (2)Do seasonal patterns in relative prices exist, and if so, how reliable is such seasonality? (3)How can hard red spring wheat hedgers use changing price spreads to increase the effectiveness of their hedging programs? (4) Can fundamental factors of supply and demand be used to predict forthcoming relative prices, and thus guide hedgers in selection of the most advantageous hedging market?

Anatomical evidence for the occurrence of Lymnaea (Galba) palustris (O.F. Müller, 1774) and L. (Galba) corvus (Gmelin, 1778) (Gastropoda: Lymnaeidae) in the Netherlands Naturalis
Velde, G. van der; Kessel, C.M. van.
A study was made on the Lymnaea (Galba) palustris complex in The Netherlands. Investigations on the genitalia proved that in The Netherlands two species are present, viz. L. palustris (O. F. Müller, 1774) and L. corvus (Gmelin, 1778), which can not in all cases be distinguished by shell characters. Genitalia were prepared, drawn and several measurements were carried out to investigate the variation within the two species. It appeared that most characters show a partial or total overlap. Some characters appeared to separate the two species absolutely. One of these is very useful for a quick distinction of both species, viz. the situation of the truncus receptaculi with respect to the oviductus, which character is already visible after a general dissection...

Antthrushes, antpittas, and gnateaters (Aves, Formicariidae) as army ant followers Zoologia
Willis,Edwin O..
Antthrushes (Formicarius, Chamaeza) sometimes walk around swarms of army ants and capture ground prey, but do not follow ants regularly. Among antpittas, only fast-leaping Pittasoma michleri and P. rufopileatum regularly follow ants. Gnateaters (Conopophaga) follow ants little. All these ground-foraging genera are poorly adapted for rapid flying, and failure to follow ants is perhaps due to inability to evade predators or out fly competitors near groups of birds attracted by ants.

APPLE PRICE AND PRODUCTION FORECASTS FOR MAINE AND THE UNITED STATES AgEcon
Hayward, Russel A.; Criner, George K.; Skinner, Steven P..
An econometric model of U.S. and Maine apple production and prices was estimated with ordinary least squares multiple regression. A Gauss-Seidel solution technique was used to examine the equation system goodness of fit and to forecast endogenous variable values. Results indicate that supply expansion in the U.S. and Maine will continue, but Maine's slower rate of increase will erode its market share. Apple prices for the U.S. and Maine are predicted to decline in real terms by the year 2000 if inflation rates exceed 3 percent annually during the period 1982 to 2000.

Daniault, Nathalie.

ArchiMer
Leaute, Jean-pierre.
Stomach contents of juveniles of sea bass (Dicentrarchus labrax ) and common dab (Limanda limanda ) collected during September 1982 from Bay of Somme and the neighbor coast to Penly, were examined. The most part of the diet of young sea bass are the crustaceans, Sedentary polychaetes appear to be the major food item for common dab. For these two young predator species, food preferences tend to change early: cumaceans, then common edible shrimp, for sea bass, Tube worm tentacles, then part of whole individuals are preferred by common dab.

Araucariaceae Naturalis
Laubenfels, D.J. de.
Monoecious, medium-sized to very large trees (rarely shrubby in very exposed situations). Either four independent cotyledons or two fused pairs (which may be retained in the seed after germination). The growing point of foliage shoots quite distinct between the two genera, being just a few highly reduced leaves in Araucaria and a highly organized bud formed of overlapping scales in Agathis. The leaves vary from scales or needles to broad leathery forms with many parallel veins sometimes on the same plant at different stages of growth. Pollen produced in cylindrical cones from one to as much as twenty cm long with numerous pedunculate spirally placed microsporophylls each with several to many pendent elongated pollen sacs attached to the lower side of an...
